Because Cloth Diapers are Fun

I have had a lot of people ask me about using cloth diapers, why I have switched, and what I am using. I used to think cloth diapers were well…what my mother used for me when I was young: gross and hard to clean – ugh! They most definitely are neither of these and I am so glad that I discovered them! Of course, there are a few drawbacks of cloth but I feel that the benefits outweigh the downfalls so I have indefinitely made the switch. I have also switched to cloth wipes too - they are just as wonderful!

Cloth is:
* Good for the environment
* Better for your baby (fewer diaper rashes because they keep baby dry, allows them to get more air, and they do not contain all those chemicals used in disposable diapers)
* More comfortable (how many people can say they love rubbing their baby’s diaper on their face?)
* Saves you a ton of money (the average child costs $2000 to diaper for 2 years: cloth costs
$200 - $800 depending on what you buy and how many)
* They are reusable (you can use them for your next child or you can sell them on-line even
saving more money)
* They are much cuter than disposables!

I was obviously sold before I even tried them!

The only drawbacks I have found are:
* You have to wash them every other day depending on how many you buy (but what is
another 3 loads of laundry a week really?)
* You have to use special detergent that does not leave residue (I just switched to this detergent
for all my clothing – no scents and no residue leaving your clothes really soft so I like it
anyways)

Once I decided to switch and started shopping around, I realized there is another world solely dedicated to cloth diapers with their own lingo. They have prefolds and flats, fitted diapers, AIOs (all in one), pocket diapers, and one-sized diapers! Don’t even let me get into all the different covers, inserts, and fabrics! That requires a blog post of its own! I basically wanted it to be a simple as possible starting out so I purchased a few of the one-size diapers and pocket diapers. I tried Blueberry, BumGenius, and Fuzzi Bunz. I liked them all but my favorite was the Fuzzi Bunz with snaps so that is what we went with.
They are easy to use and since they require inserts, I can stuff them with extra inserts for nighttime when Jackson doesn’t get changed as often so he still stays dry all night! They are really easy to use, even my husband likes them! Head on over to Kelly's Closet or Happybottomus (based out of Kansas City) to find out more about cloth and to shop around! They have a great selection and good deals too!

  1. What does your daycare do with your diapers when he is dirty? And how much is your laundry soap? Where do you buy it? And..one last question...are these diapers heavy duty for Macey to use when she gets to be 1-2 years? Are they all one size fits all?

Okay, sorry so many questions. I just see alot of people are switching to these and I am curious...:)
